eating habits
Eat real food. "Real food" means foods that are not overly processed, or contain artificial colors, sweeteners and other additives not found in nature.
Processed foods out of a box offer little nutritional value, and high calorie counts. If your grandmother wouldn't recognize the ingredients listed on the label, it is best to give the product a pass.
Shop the outer perimeter of your grocery story first.
Fresh foods are usually found on the wall aisles, while junk food can usually be found in the center of the store.
Avoid products with more than five ingredients listed on the label, and reject foods containing ingredients that you can't pronounce.
Eat real food, but not too much; eat to be satisfied, not stuffed.
When you eat wholesome, nutritious food, your body will feel satisfied sooner, and stay satisfied longer.
Shop sales and use coupons.
It is a sad fact of life that some people can't afford to eat the highest quality food. Organic is expensive, plain and simple. But if you check your grocer's sales flyer, you can find the best deals on fresh produce and meats.
Using coupons for other staples may allow more room in your budget for healthier alternatives.
Limit alcoholic beverages.
It is not necessary to eliminate them completely, just make smarter choices.
Red wine is known to contain antioxidants, while other forms of liquor simply add empty calories to your diet.
Create a ritual around your meals.
Set the table; use nice linens, silverware, or special china. Do whatever will make you enjoy your meals to the fullest.
Be mindful and aware-- eating should be one of life's pleasures. Absently noshing in front of the television or while attending to other tasks often leads to over-eating.
